The AV Putter and The Directors Cup are two Trophy competitions which used to be played as a medal competition from which the top 16 players on the day of play went through to a singles match-play knockout. On the day of the qualifier competition, there was always an option to play a medal without entering the trophy competition.

For those unfamiliar with competition formats, medal play is the simplest format where you keep a score of the number of strokes taken at each hole on the scorecard, and the final score for each player is determined by subtracting that individual’s playing handicap for the course from the score achieved in that round. In singles match-play, you are playing against another individual and each hole is won by the person with the best net score, and factors in any shots received based on playing handicap difference between the two players.  If anyone wants further clarification on these formats, please don’t hesitate to contact any Ladies Committee member. 

In 2020 and 2021, due to the impact of Covid limiting the summer golf season, it was decided to play the trophy competition as an on-the-day-of-play medal competition without a subsequent singles match-play knockout stage. As this format seemed to work well it was decided to continue with it for the foreseeable future.

This year there have been a number of requests to reinstate these competitions to their original format as qualifying knockouts. Therefore, the Ladies committee have decided to put this to a Ballot.
